Network's most powerful, most expensive computers that share their resources (printers, scanners, hard drives, etc.) on network are called Servers
And the other computers that aren't servers (cheaper, not to much powerful, doesn't share it's resources, etc.) are Clients
These are the two types of computers that a computer network does contain.
Note: In a LAN (local area network) exist several servers (maybe one or two) but much clients (depends on how many computers are at LAN party).
There are two kinds of servers: Dedicated Servers and the ones Peers.
1. Dedicated Servers are computers that are depended on special tasks, so they are programmed to complete just the task given like: share printer or scanner, share an application or use in place of a database, etc. You cannot do anything else with it, so it is programmed to do just only one thing. Mostly these computers use a special version of operating systems call NOS (network operating systems) Microsoft's Windows ones are Server edition, there we have also Linux.
2. Peers are computers that are programmed to do a job, but there you can also do additional tasks like running Word Processors, different applications, etc. So you can use this computer like other computers that aren't depended to to just programmed tasks and doesn't require special operating system, you just have to enable some networking settings.
The only difference between these two is what dedicated servers use special operating systems NOS (network operating systems), but peers or p2p sharing (peer 2 peer) doesn't need any additional operating system or software, but you just have to enable some networking features.
Note: Dedicated is very helpful for using it like a server to help clients.
