You may or may have not known that Microsoft has released IE 8 Beta 1 to the public, however, they sure have and I have tested the beta.
First, you can get IE 8 Beta 1 here, so you can test it yourself. The interface looks a lot like IE 7, however “Activities” and “Web Slices” are introduced. “Activities” allow you to interact with selected data. You could put the data into a blog post, or put the data into a map. “Web Slices” allow developers to introduce “interactive RSS feeds.” If a developer has a web slice on their web page, a user browsing with IE 7 will ask if they want to subscribe to that web slice. Once subscribed, the web slice will appear as a widget in the user’s browser. If the developer’s website updates and they have configured the web slice to show that update, the user will also receive an update in their web browser.
However, The rendering engine needs a lot of work. Google Maps looked horrible, and Gmail didn’t look too good either. Microsoft should work on their rendering engine before they make IE 8 final.
